United for zero hunger in a soccer tournament

At the Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana - UNITEC, we had the honor of hosting the “Jugando por un Kilo” Solidarity Soccer Tournament in partnership with the Food Bank of Honduras (Banco de Alimentos de Honduras - BAH in spanish). This meaningful event brought together companies and organizations from across our community, all united in the mission to collect food and address the issue of food insecurity in our country.

Mar Mayoral, our Director of Sustainability, emphasized the significance of this event: “At UNITEC, we are thrilled to contribute to such a noble cause—gathering food for those who need it most. This event not only promotes sports and healthy competition, but also unites various companies in a collective effort to combat hunger in Honduras.”

A Tournament with Purpose

The dynamics of the tournament reflected a unique and impactful vision. Each participating team donated 500 kg of food as a registration requirement, while attendees also contributed an additional kilogram each. Thanks to this collective effort, we successfully collected over 5,000 kg of food, all of which was delivered to the BAH.

This event showed how sports can be a catalyst for social change. The teams competed not only for victory on the field but also for the well-being of vulnerable families across Honduras. Companies such as Banco Atlántida, Banco Promerica, RAP, Sula, DHL, Cargill, Equipos Industriales, Domino’s Pizza, and Diunsa joined in this solidarity effort, proving that cross-sector collaboration is essential to creating a lasting impact.

Zero Hunger: A Goal that Unites Us

The vision of “Zero Hunger” was a central theme of the event, representing a shared goal between UNITEC and our partner organizations from the BAH. This initiative demonstrated that through collaboration and solidarity, we can build a stronger community committed to the well-being of all.

By supporting initiatives like Jugando por un Kilo (Playing for a kg), we reaffirm our role as a socially responsible institution. We are dedicated to promoting values of solidarity and social commitment within our university community. Each kilogram collected brings us one step closer to a future without hunger, and this is a goal that UNITEC will continue to pursue with dedication and enthusiasm.
